Green Bay Packers -3.5 @ Chicago Bears
The history of these two teams goes back forever, yet they haven’t met for a game this meaningful since the 1940s. The setting will be classic, from the frozen turf, to the clash of two great uniforms, to the singing of the national anthem which I can’t get enough of ever since last week’s game when the Bears dominated the Seahawks. And that is my segue into this week’s game. To some degree we can throw out history both recent and distant when teams that despise each other this much faceoff. But look at what the Packers have done in the playoffs, winning at Philadelphia and at Atlanta, and compare that to the Bears winning a game against an 8-9 Seahawks team. The Bears took care of business, no doubt, and they deserve credit for doing so. However, I believe they face a Packers team that is peaking at the perfect time and will find a way to win this game. People point to their meeting in the last game of the regular season when the Bears played their starters and they want to compare it to when the New York Giants did the same against the New England Patriots a few years back. Its an easy comparison to make, but to me it is not relevant. I don’t see the comparison. The Giants were able to use that game to learn more about their opponent and about themselves. The Bears and Packers don’t need either of those things. They play twice a year and there is not an air of invincibility around the Packers that existed around that Patriots team. And, since we are hear to cover spreads and win money, let’s not forget that even in the hard-fought season finale, the Packers won by 7. I am sitting nicely atop the mountain being up 2,460 for the year and am going to use my surplus to increase my winnings even more. I will give the 3.5 points and take the Packers for 400.

New York Jets +4 and +165 @ Pittsburgh Steelers
The first game today has history, but this game is where the real excitement is going to be! First, all 4 teams that are playing today owe a big thank you to Lady Luck. Each team won a game or two that they should have lost, received help from other teams choking down the stretch, received help from officiating calls that if they didn’t receive would’ve cost them a few wins and kept them out of the playoffs. Don’t get me wrong, in a league that is as evenly balanced as the NFL everyone needs some luck, and they should gladly welcome any that comes their way. But the least lucky of all the teams has been the Jets. What is that worth? I am not sure, other than to say that the Jets said they would be here when the season started and here they are. The Steelers started the year with Ben Roethlisberger sitting out the first 4 games due to suspension, and many thought that they would get off to such a slow start that the playoffs would be too elusive for them. Pittsburgh showed how good of a team they are by finding a multitude of ways to win games.
In last week’s game against the Ravens, the Steelers were fortunate to not receive numerous 15-yard penalties for hits that came well after the whistle and for things like head-butting WRs by the Steeler DBs. Perhaps the refs let things go because of the rivalry and hatred that exists between Baltimore and Pittsburgh, but I am sure the league saw what we all saw and there will be some extra attention paid to it today. The one time a late hit was called on Pittsburgh it gave the Ravens a short field and a chance to tie it up. Granted the Ravens didn’t, but no team is dominant enough to do that sort of thing and get away with it too often.
Here is how this game boils down for me. It will be a stomach turning, nail biting, fight to the finish that is most likely going to come down to the final possession. To be honest, if either team is going to win by more than a TD I believe it will be the Jets. Why? Its what my gut tells me, the Jets have that feel to them right now.

With that said, I am placing two bets on this game. I am going to take the 4 points and lay 200 on the Jets, and I am going to take the +165 Money Line and lay another 200 on the Jets to win the game.

Chicago Bears -10 vs Seattle Seahawks
There are two sides to every coin. One side says look how impressive the Seahawks were last week. The other says, boy oh boy did the Saints defense flat out suck. I don’t mean to take anything away from Seahawks, but the Saints waltzed into Seattle last week like they were going to a social event. That won’t happen today in Chicago. I believe that anyone can beat anyone in the NFL, and obviously it is easy to point to Seattle’s win in Chicago earlier this year as proof that Seattle can win. But I don’t need proof that Seattle can win, of course they CAN win, but they won’t. Not today. In fact, it won’t be close. This Bears team is not the same one that lost to Seattle earlier this year. Yes Jay Cutler can be a scary QB, but so can Matthew Hasselbeck. I will give the points and take the Bears for 200.

New York Jets +9 @ New England Patriots
First, as stated above, let’s all stop the nonsense of saying the Jets can’t win. This isn’t high school football where the talent gap can be so enormous that teams don’t stand a chance against superior talent. The Jets CAN win, will they? Not sure. But I feel very confident that this game will not be like the last time these two teams met. 45-3 was a result of a lot of factors, the biggest one in my opinion being the Jets’ loss of Jim Leonhard to injury the week of that game. Its easy to recognize how big the loss of a QB is to a team. But I also believe that equally as devastating is the loss of the Center and the loss of the defensive play caller. The Jets secondary, namely Eric Smith who replaced Leonhard, looked lost in that Monday night game. Smith and the Jets have more experience than last time and it should show in the Patriots not having such an easy time scoring. I expect a close game so I will take the 9 points and the Jets for 200.

Baltimore Ravens +3 @ Pittsburgh Steelers
These two teams HATE each other, and it will show today in what should be a battle from the opening kickoff to the final gun. The Ravens showed last week that they were just flat out better than the Chiefs, and while the Chiefs were a feel good story I don’t know anyone that thought they had a legit shot at pulling that upset. Throw out stats in games like these. What I am looking for is where are the points and keep my wager low. That said, I am laying 200 on the Ravens and taking the points.

Green Bay Packers +1 @ Atlanta Falcons
The Packers seem to be peaking at the right time. I was high on the Falcons all year but I feel that the Packers are the hotter team and when I reviewed the Falcons year there were a few games (49ers and Ravens) where the Falcons got lucky to win. I am going to show some restraint with this wager also and keep it at 200, taking the Packers and the point.

Green Bay Packers +2.5 @ Philadelphia Eagles
I believe this will prove to be the best game of the weekend, and that is saying something because yesterday’s games were great! These teams have a lot in common and I can tell you that is this line was GB +3.5 I would be all over the Packers because I do believe this game will come down to the final possession. These two met in Week 1, but that was an eternity ago. They both beat the Giants, the Packers handily, the Eagles not so handily. But did the Packers have an easier time with the Giants because the week before the Eagles broke the Giants heart and stole their soul? Perhaps. Each team has a defensive player that is a game changer. Green Bay was Clay Matthews, Philadelphia has Asante Samuel. Each team has a great, if not different styled, QBs. What to do, what to do?!?!
Here is what I am doing. I am laying a little cash on the Packers because they are getting the points. I will take the points and the Packers for 200.

Baltimore Ravens -3 @ Kansas City Chiefs
I LOVE the Ravens today. Seattle winning only emboldens me more. There is no way that the NFL sees two big upsets in the first week of the playoffs, right? That may not be the best justification, but I liked the Ravens at the beginning of the week as my favorite play this weekend, and nothing has happened to make me change my mind. I am swinging for the fences on this one, giving the points and taking the Ravens for 500.

New Orleans Saints -10 @ Seattle Seahawks
10 points is a lot of points to give in a playoff game, regardless that the underdog is a sub-500 team. There are reasons to possibly like the Seahawks to cover today, they are at home, there are no expectations on them, the Saints offense has not been the high-powered one that we became accustomed to, etc. However, I can’t get myself to believe that its wise to put money on a team like the Seahawks. The smart money is on the Saints, even if its conservative money. I have a 1,360 surplus entering the playoffs and am going to lay 180 on the Saints minus the points.

New York Jets +2 @ Indianapolis Colts
Last year the Jets had the Colts on the ropes in the AFC Championship game but let them off the hook by not staying aggressive on offense in the second half of that game. The personnel is very similar and I believe the Jets are better than they were last year, and the Colts are not as good. Yes Mark Sanchez struggles and he is nowhere near being an elite QB. But the game is inside so the Boy from SoCal should be more comfortable then he looks when playing outside in the cold. Sanchez also has shown that he can be a smart, efficient QB and I em betting he can pull it together today. The Colts meanwhile deserve a ton of credit for doing what the have done this year. They have battled injuries and still managed to get into the playoffs, playing pretty well down the stretch. My opinion is that they have done it mostly with smoke and mirrors and that can only last so long. The Jets not having Jim Leonhard in the secondary is not good as his replacement Eric Smith has shown he is a downgrade from Leonhard. That makes me keep it conservative, but I will still take the Jets and the points for 180.

Baltimore Ravens -9.5 vs Cincinnati Bengals
The Bengals had a win they can be proud of last week, and that will pacify them to the point of not really caring about today. The Ravens however do care and will show why they are my pick to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl. I will take the Ravens and give the points for 200.

Detroit Lions -3 vs Minnesota Vikings
The Lions are a team that loves to be on the field right now. 3 wins in a row and they are feeling good about themselves. The Vikings have had a ridiculous season that everyone will be happy to see come to a close. The Vikings have been in travel hell for about 4 weeks and it will show today. I will give the points and take the Lions for 200.

St. Louis Rams -3 @ Seattle Seahawks
The Rams will win and all the save the integrity of the NFL playoffs. I will give the points and take the Rams for 200.
