Post Game with Dean Browski – 2010 NFL Week 3

by @ 9:39 am. Filed under NFL

Tennessee Titans 29 at New York Giants 10
It’s games like this that keep Eli Manning from being considered an elite quarterback. There are just too many mistakes made that shouldn’t be made. This was a good win for the Titans because anywhere in any NFL is a good win. I am not sure if I should put stock in the Titans when as far as the siding how good of the team they are. I still believe the Giants will be in the playoff hunt at the end of the year but they sure don’t give me much confidence.

Cincinnati Bengals 20 at Carolina Panthers 7
This game went as I expected. The Panthers really aren’t any good; could be betting against them a lot this year.it was number one out of three of my winning three team parlay.

Pittsburgh Steelers 38 at Tampa Bay Buccaneers 13
I am not sure what the Buccaneers did between last year and this year for people to think that they can be on the same field as the Steelers. This game also went as I expected. It was number two out of three of my winning three team parlay.

Buffalo Bills 30 at New England Patriots 38
The patriots had this game covered and were unable to keep the vaunted Bills offense out of the end zone. I think the bills offense in this game is a mirage I do not expect to continue.

Cleveland Browns 17 at Baltimore Ravens 24
Between this game and the previously mentioned Bills Patriots game I lost 600. Two of the worst teams backdoored me.

San Francisco 49ers 10 at Kansas City Chiefs 31
I am truly surprised. Not so much because the Chiefs are playing well but because of how bad 49ers are playing. That being said they still will compete and I believe win the NFC West.

Dallas Cowboys 27 at Houston Texans 13
I hate to say I told you so but I did. This was game three out of three of my winning three team parlay. Paid 6.15. On a 200 wager that’s a cool 1200+.

Detroit Lions 10 at Minnesota Vikings 24
The Lions are 1-2 in my book I don’t care that the NFL says they are 0-3.

Atlanta Falcons 27 at New Orleans Saints 24
The Dean has never been a fan of kickers.

Washington Redskins 16 at St. Louis Rams 30
I can’t honestly say I am shocked by this game. I did choose the Redskins to cover, but that’s just the smart play when picking every game, and not just the games you want to lay money on. I believe this is proof that the Redskins are a 5 to 6 win team this year. That being said I don’t count them out this Sunday against the Eagles.

Philadelphia Eagles 28 at Jacksonville Jaguars 3
No surprise here.

Indianapolis Colts 27 at Denver Broncos 13
Since the Broncos 8-0 last year they are well beneath 500. How much longer until Josh McDaniels Golden boy aura is evaporated?

Oakland Raiders 23 at Arizona Cardinals 24
I don’t know if you’ve heard but The Dean has never been a fan of kickers.

San Diego Chargers 20 at Seattle Seahawks 27
Well well well Seahawks maybe I don’t know you. Chargers I know you.

New York Jets 31 at Miami Dolphins 23
In case anybody was wondering the AFC East is the best division in football.

Green Bay Packers 17 at Chicago Bears 20
Jay Cutler’s mediocre performance was overshadowed by Karen Rogers stellar performance in a losing effort and the Packers self-destructive ways. I really like the Giants this week against the Bears.

Green Bay Packers
Green Bay Packers -3 @ Chicago Bears
I am not sure what to make of this Bears team just yet, and the fact that everyone is on the Packers makes me a little nervous. Being that I was up 630 yesterday I definitely want some action on tonight’s classic matchup but am going to keep in light. I’ll give the points and take the Packers for 130.

New England Patriots
New England Patriots -14.5 vs Buffalo Bills
The Patriots are pissed and here comes AFC East doormat and whipping boy, the Bills. May god have mercy on you today Buffalo. I will give the 14.5 and take the Patriots for 300.

Baltimore Ravens
Baltimore Ravens -10.5 vs Cleveland Browns
The Ravens offense has not been impressive, that is obvious. With that it may seem like a lot of points to cover. But if the opponent doesn’t score you don’t need a great offense to cover 10.5. Also, the Ravens offense is not as bad as they have shown in the first two weeks. Give me the the Ravens, I’ll give you the points and play it for 300.

3-Team Parlay

Three team parlays are not easy to hit, but I love playing them. The process of deciding which teams to put in a parlay is more art than science. I am going to play the three teams below in today’s parlay and lay 200 on it.

Pittsburgh Steelers
Pittsburgh Steelers -3 @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The theme of the day for The Dean is defense and the Steelers play it better than anyone. I am not worried about their QB situation, and neither are they.

Cincinnati Bengals
Cincinnati Bengals -3 @ Carolina Panthers
I truly believe the Bengals are one of the better teams in the NFL. And I also truly believe that the Panthers are one of the worst. The Bengals do struggle with consistency, but with Jimmy Clausen starting at QB for the Panthers any inconsistency won’t harm them.

Dallas Cowboys
Dallas Cowboys +3 @ Houston Texans
I am not buying that the Cowboys are as bad as they have shown. This game has all the feel of a typical NFL-fooled-you type of game.

Virginia Tech Hokies -4 @ Boston College Eagles
I don’t believe everyone was so off at the beginning of the year as it pertains to the Hokies. Their loss to JMU was horrendous no doubt, and their early struggles against East Carolina made the JMU game look less and less like a fluke. What the Hokies showed in the latter part of last week’s game gives me the confidence that they are closer to their true selves. Boston College is not an easy place to play, but I will take the Hokies and give the points for 200.

Parlay

Florida St. Seminoles -20 vs Wake Forest Demon Deacons

BYU Cougars +4 vs Nevada Wolfpack
I am going to play a 2-team parlay comprised of two teams that played each last week. Getting to watch both FSU and BYU gave me some insight, coupled with seeing Nevada beat Cal by a lopsided margin. The Cal/Nevada game turned on a horrendous throw by the Cal QB so I am not giving Nevada as much credit for that win as others may be. I like BYU as a home dog. Florida St. meanwhile showed me that perhaps getting rid of Bobby Bowden did make them better. I also know that Wake Forest looked horrendous against Stanford. Back to back road games for WFU is asking too much of them. I am taking BYU and FSU in a 2-team parlay for 200.

Monday Morning QB with Dean Browski – 2010 NFL Week 2

by @ 4:12 pm. Filed under NFL

Buffalo Bills 7 at Green Bay Packers 34
This was Dallas Ricky’s perfect pick that he gave to Dean Saturday night. Dallas Ricky does nothing but give winners.

Miami Dolphins 14 at Minnesota Vikings 10
I didn’t have the guts to take the Dolphins to win this game but I did have them to cover. Something doesn’t look right with the Vikings. Getting Percy Harvin back on the field and possibly getting Vincent Jackson should help the Vikings a lot.

Kansas City Chiefs 16 at Cleveland Browns 14
I discounted the Chiefs performance against the Chargers because of the weather and I can’t give much credit for beating the Browns but they are 2-0.

Chicago Bears 27 at Dallas Cowboys 20
Jay Cutler is better than Tony Romo. There is definitely a sense of panic in Dallas and their schedule does not favor them. Games in Minnesota, Indianapolis, and Green Bay are just a sampling of the tough schedule the Cowboys have this year. It’s tough to call a Week 2 game a must win, but the game the Cowboys just lost, it was a must win.

Arizona Cardinals 7 at Atlanta Falcons 41
Looks like the old Cardinals are back. One of my regrets of yesterday was not taking the Falcons straight up but instead I put them in a Teaser, a game that did not need to be teased!

Tampa Bay Buccaneers 20 at Carolina Panthers 7
I didn’t see a single highlight of this game and I’m okay with that.

Philadelphia Eagles 35 at Detroit Lions 32
Back-to-back tough losses for the Lions, but they are definitely an improved team. The QB situation in Philadelphia is going to be very interesting.

Baltimore Ravens 10 at Cincinnati Bengals 15
According to my math the vaunted Jets defense isn’t any better than the Bengals defense. The Baltimore Ravens really need to get their offense on track, and the Bengals need to do the same.

Pittsburgh Steelers 19 at Tennessee Titans 11
Troy Polamalu is the key. The key to everything. I knew the Steelers struggled last year in his absence and I knew they would be improved on defense with his return but the impact he has is far greater than even I thought was possible. The Steelers, to me, look like the best team in football right now.

Seattle Seahawks 14 at Denver Broncos 31
The Seahawks losing by 17 sees more in line with the universe.

St. Louis Rams 14 at Oakland Raiders 16
I really have nothing to say about this game. The Raiders won which I’m actually happy about, but they didn’t cover so they continue to be a disappointment.

Houston Texans 30 at Washington Redskins 27
I was about to look like a genius with this pick and then the Redskins went and turned back into the Redskins. I was watching the game with a bunch of Philadelphia Eagles fans and they were all holding their collective breath hoping that McNabb did not play impressively. Then he throws for 400 yards they were not happy. I hate with a passion the rule that allows NFL coaches to act like sneaky little rats and call timeouts that require an entire play, a point scoring play, to be taken off the board. I understand that everybody does it but that doesn’t make it right. I understand the kicker needs to just line up a kick it again but he already made it once he shouldn’t have to kick it again. How about we start making quarterbacks re-throw touchdown passes. Does that make any sense?!

New England Patriots 14 at New York Jets 28
The roller coaster of the Jets has begun!

San Diego Chargers 38 at Jacksonville Jaguars 13
There is always a lot of attention paid to West Coast teams that travel East to play but not so much East coast teams headed west. Not sure if the Jaguars will use that as an excuse or if they just want to own up to not being very good.

New York Giants 14 at Indianapolis Colts 38
The roller coaster of the giant has begun!

Dean Browski’s 2010 NFL Betting Record To Date

Straight: 1-1-2

Parlays: 1-0-0

Straight

Cincinnati Bengals
Cincinnati Bengals +2.5 vs Baltimore Ravens
The Ravens would be 0-1 if the Jets had any type of offense. Not to take anything away from the Ravens defense, it certainly isn’t bad, but to say their defense is dominant because they dominated the Jets isn’t accurate either. I’ll take the home dog and the team I picked to win the AFC North.

Tennessee Titans
Tennessee Titans -5.5 vs Pittsburgh Steelers
I am stating the obvious here, but the Steelers defense is markedly better when Troy Polamalu is on the field. That said, the Titans offense I believe is going to give the Steelers enough trouble that the Steeler offense will not be able to keep pace.

Green Bay Packers
Green Bay Packers -12.5 vs Buffalo Bills
I don’t usually have such a change in thinking as to pick one team in my weekly picks (Bills + 13) and then bet against them on Sunday, but after conferring with the best handicapper I know last night at a wedding reception, I am pulling the carpet out of my original pick and laying some bills against the Bills.

3-Team 6-Point Teaser

Dallas Cowboys
Dallas Cowboys -1 vs Chicago Bears
I understand how bad the Cowboys looked last week against the Redskins, but I also know that NFC East battles are events in and of themselves. This line was at 8, dropped to 7 on my board as of this morning so I will gladly bring it to the Cowboys only having to give 1 point.

Atlanta Falcons
Atlanta Falcons -.5 vs Arizona Cardinals
The Falcons offense will find its footing against the Cardinals.

Miami Dolphins
Miami Dolphins +11.5 @ Minnesota Vikings
You don’t like the Dolphins getting 11.5 points? I do!

Duke Blue Devils +24 vs Alabama Crimson Tide
Many people, myself included, were stunned by the low line in this game. We see Alabama against Duke in football and we think of 55-10 games. Vegas is very rarely that wrong so the low line was the cause of my initial check mark next to this game. Consider that Duke can score, and that Alabama is content to grind it out it. Lastly, Alabama is playing on the road after a big game. All that leads me to take the Blue Devils and the 24 points for 100.

Texas Tech Red Raiders +3 vs Texas Longhorns
Its tough to lose the type of people from your team the way the Longhorns did, and the Red Raiders have the Longhorns number when in Lubbock. I’ll take the home dog in this intrastate rivalry for 100.

BYU Cougars +10 @ Florida St. Seminoles
The Seminoles have been no good for quite a few years. Bobby Bowden’s departure did not make them better. FSU looks undisciplined which a team like BYU will exploit. BYU winning this game wouldn’t surprise me in the least, but I am going to take the points and the Cougars for 100.

Stanford Cardinal -17.5 vs Wake Forest Demon Deacons
The ACC in general and Wake Forest specifically do not deserve an ounce of anyone’s respect. Meanwhile the Pac 10 in general and Stanford specifically are underrated. Wake Forest may be able to compete with Stanford in the classroom, but not on the football field this year. I will be taking the Cardinal and giving the points for 300.
