2009 World Series

by @ 6:54 pm. Filed under MLB, Wagering

Philadelphia Phillies vs. New York Yankees

Philadelphia Phillies New York Yankees

I have not been this excited for a World Series in a long time! There isn’t a baseball fan in the world that shouldn’t be excited for this Series. As a matter of fact, only Mets fans are allowed to not care since they hate both teams. Finally, for the first time in a long time (probably 1999) the two best teams in baseball are facing each other in the World Series, and what a Series it should be.

Baseball is a game that hinges on so many unforeseen things, more than any other sport. For example, who is better Cliff Lee or C.C. Sabathia? An argument can be made either way. Which offense is more powerful? Which team is more clutch? The only discernible difference between these two teams as I see it is their bullpens, more specifically their closers. Mariano Riveria is Mariano Riveria. He is legendary, has proven his worth and there isn’t much else to say about him. Except for this: Mo has shown that he does not field and throw bunts out very well. Perhaps statistically he is as good as any other pitcher performing that task, byt Mo threw away the 2001 World Series against the Diamondbacks, and he almost cost the Yankees the other night against the Angels. Brad Lidge meanwhile should be spoken about in terms of his dominance but because of his shaky regular season performance the topic concerning Lidge is, which one will show up? In the post-season he has been the Lidge of 2008, which is great but in this calendar year he has been more shaky than sturdy.

These two teams played this year in the Bronx with the Phillies taking 2 of 3. In my honest opinion, I wouldn’t blame anyone for placing money on either team, I think they match up that well. The only thing I am highly certain of is that neither team will sweep, and every game will be a dramatic, nail-biting game that comes down to the last pitch. That being the case, an argument could be made for the Yankees based on their experience in playoff and World Series games. The Phillies however are the team with the more recent World Series experience, and they are the defending champs.

So for whatever it is worth, I placed my money on the Yankees in 6. And I have not been this excited for the World Series in a long time!

Dean Browski’s NFL Betting Record To Date: 22-19

Playing the Pointspread

Philadelphia Eagles
Philadelphia Eagles -8 @ Washington Redskins
There isn’t a chance in hell I would put money on the Redskins. The analysis doesn’t need to go any further than that. Anyone that wants to find a reason to take the Redskins is just looking for a reason to take the Redskins. Aside from the Eagles losing to the Raiders last week, what possible reason is there to take Washington?! They are a bad team with dysfunctional management that have made moves that only serve to deflate an already deflated team. The Eagles loss was last week was the worst thing that could have happened to the ‘Skins and the best thing to happen to Vegas. The Eagles losing last week is serving to balance Vegas’ ledger as it has given people hope that maybe, just maybe, the Eagles suck. Well, they don’t. The overlooked the Raiders, and had their annual ‘Screw the Pooch’ game. No chance the overlook the Redskins.

Dean Browski’s NFL Betting Record To Date: 20-18

Playing the Pointspread

Atlanta Falcons
Atlanta Flacons +4 @ Dallas Cowboys
Some may say tot ake the Cowboys in this game solely because this line seems so out of whack. I am not doing that. The Cowboys are no good, period end of subject.

New Orleans Saints
New Orleans Saints -6 @ Miami Dolphins
This has a lot of the qualities of a trap game for the Saints. But the Saints have a lot of qualities to overcome any traps.

New England Patriots
New England Patriots -15 vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ London, England
Patriots in England?! Come on!

The Dean’s College Football Picks – Week 8

Dean Browski’s College Football Betting Record To Date: 22-35

5-Team Parlay

Alabama Crimson Tide
Alabama Crimson Tide -13.5 vs Tennesse Volunteers
The Crimson Tide will do to Lane Kiffin’s Vols what the Gators were unable to, which is to beat them down. Reason is, the Tide are better than the Gators.

Penn St. Nittany Lions
Penn St. Nittany Lions -4.5 @ Michigan Wolverines
Michigan has an offense that can be tough to stop, but Michigan also hasn’t figured out how to stop the other offense. Penn St.’s defense is the best that the Wolverines have faced this year.

Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets
Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets -5.5 @ Virginia Cavaliers
Georgia Tech may well be the best team in the ACC. That may not be saying much, but its enough for today against the Cavaliers.

Miami Hurricanes
Miami Hurricanes -4 vs Clemson Tigers
If Georgia Tech isn’t the best team in the ACC, than its the Hurricanes. Again, maybe isn’t saying much but its enough for today against the Tigers.

Iowa Hawkeyes
Iowa Hawkeyes +1.5 @ Michigan St. Spartans
I had been playing the trend of unranked teams favored over ranked teams. It is 50/50 at best so I am throwing that away. Both teams like to play close games and Iowa has been at finding a way to win the close games.

Playing the Pointspread

North Carolina Tar Heels
North Carolina Tar Heels -3 vs Florida St. Seminoles
Not much makes sense about this line, but then again not much makes sense about either of these teams. North Carolina entered the year with high expectations and currently stand at 4-2 overall and 0-2 in the ACC. The most embarrassing of their losses is a 16-3 loss to Virginia. Florida St. meanwhile entered the season without much expectation but quickly raised everyone’s expectation with a classic battle against Miami and a drubbing of BYU in Provo. Aside from those two games the Seminoles barely escaped Jacksonville St., lost to South Florida, Boston College, and Georgia Tech. Coach Bobby Bowden has had to defend his existence and it seems like an eternity ago that the Seminoles were playing well.

Thursday night, home team is a small favorite, two confusing teams and a confusing point spread. I will go with the home team and give the points.

The Dean’s NFL Bets – Week 6

Dean Browski’s NFL Betting Record To Date: 20-16

2-Team Parlay

Kansas City Chiefs
Kansas City Chiefs to WIN +210 @ Washington Redskins
The Redskins have not played a team yet with a win at the time of their game with the Redskins. Yet, 3 teams have walked away from the Redskins with a win. Maybe its unfair to include the Giants in that statistic, but the other two were the Lions who hadn’t won in an eternity and the Panthers who hadn’t won this year. The Chiefs play hard, came close to a win last week, while the ‘Skins are battling poor play, poor coaching, and every former Redskin ripping head coach Jim Zorn. The Redskins are a mess!!

Philadelphia Eagles
Philadelphia Eagles -14 @ Oakland Raiders
Speaking of messes, your Oakland Raiders! Hard to believe this line is only 2 touchdowns. Not much to say here. Antonio Pierce of the NY Giants said their game against the Raiders felt like a scrimmage. Well said Antonio.

Dean Browski’s College Football Betting Record To Date: 21-32

Playing the Pointspread

Wisconsin Badgers
Wisconsin Badgers -2.5 vs Iowa Hawkeyes
An unranked team giving points to a ranked team. I am going to play this trend til the cows come home.

Arkansas Razorbacks
Arkansas Razorbacks +24.5 @ Florida Gators
There is no doubt that Florida is a very good team, but their offense just doesn’t seem to have the same power as last year. Their defense is excellent, but I am betting the Razorbacks can stay within 3 TDs of the Gators.

Notre Dame Fighting Irish
Notre Dame Fighting Irish +10 vs USC Trojans
I expect this game to be close. If not know, when? Notre Dame finally comes into this game with more going for them than against them, and USC actually has more questions on their offense than ND does.

Minnesota Golden Gophers
Minnesota Golden Gophers +17 @ Penn St. Nittany Lions
17 points is just way to high for a PSU team that hasn’t proven a damn thing this year.
