The Los Angeles Lakers have taken a 3-1 lead in the Western Conference Finals after defeating the San Antonio Spurs 93-91. The Lakers were getting 4, so the obviously covered. The Under also hit. The loss snapped a 13-game home playoff winning streak for the Spurs and it puts their collective backs to the wall as the travel to Los Angeles for Game 5 on Thursday where the Lakers have not lost since March 28th. Believe it or not, all of that gives me confidence in the Spurs. But we will discuss that tomorrow.
Tonights action: Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals tips-off in Boston tonight. The Celtics are 6 point favorites and the Total is 173. Here is my dilemma with picking this game. I find myself rooting for the Pistons, so I need to check myself. So I need to bring it down to basics. The basics are, these two teams were the best in the Eastern Conference all year and this series was hugely anticipated. Additionally, the Celtics have gone to 7 games in their previous two series. If you believe this series will go 7, which I do, then what is more likely the Celtics and Pistons each winning their next home games and then squaring off back in Boston for Game 7? Or, each to win on the other’s home court? I believe the former is the smarter pick and with that I SHOULD lay something down on the Celtics tonight. But I don’t want to. I am laying 2-stars on the Pistons.
Rare bad news for the Boston Red Sox when pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka left last night’s game with what appeared to be a back injury but is being called shoulder fatigue . . . Rare good news for the New York Mets, Pedro Martinez may start June 3 . . . Manny Ramirez hit his 499th HR last night . . . 9 Home Runs were hit in the Yankee-Oriole game last night in Baltimore.
Who’s Hot? The Oakland Athletics are holders of the current longest winning streak at 5. No other team has won more than 3 in a row currently. Who’s Not? The Kansas City Royals have now lost 9 in a row . . . The Detroit Tigers have lost 3 in a row.
Nothing here for you.
The Penguins try to at least score a goal tonight when the meet the Red Wings in Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Finals in Pittsburgh. Detroit is up 2-0.
