The Los Angeles Lakers took Game 1 from the San Antonio Spurs 89-85. The Spurs blew a 20 point lead in the 3rd quarter though the did manage to cover the line and the Under hit. San Antonio didn’t look tired through 3 quarters, but the Lakers are a 4th quarter team and they proved it again last night outscoring the Spurs by 11 in the final frame. Kobe Bryant had 25 2nd half points. Game 2 is Friday in LA.
Tonights action: Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals tips off tonight in Boston. The Celtics are 4 point favorites and the Total is 172. Game 1 featured 12 turnovers by the Piston starters, and a performance by Chauncey Billups that raises questions about how healthy is injured hamstring is. Detroit’s 3rd quarter performance in Game 1 was disappointing, but I am relying on them being who I thought they were, and that is a team that shows resiliency. Billups injury makes me a bit nervous, as does Bostons’ home winning streak. I am playing 2-stars on the Pistons tonight plus the 4 points.
Brandon Webb had a chance to be the first pitcher in 23 years to win their first 10 starts of the year, but he lost . . . Another disputed Home Run in MLB last night, and the umps got it wrong again. Instant replay in MLB for fair and foul and disputed HRs is going to happen, needs to happen, soon . . . Who’s Hot? Both the White and the Red Sox won, their respective winning streaks are at 7 and 6 games . . . The Braves have a 4 game winning streak . . . Who’s Not? The Indians have lost 5 straight.
The hot item being discussed in the NFL is the possibility of adding a 17th regular season game and dropping a pre-season game. I am all for dropping a pre-season game or games. As far as adding a 17th game, The Dean says “Go for it!”, that increases the number of viable games to wager on.
Stanley Cup Finals begin on Saturday.
